Karen was raised in Chicago, Illinois and involved in the arts from a very young age. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre - production stage management and costume design from the Performing Arts Center, Barat College of DePaul University. Karen was fortunate enough to work with such theatre companies as Steppenwolf Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Chicago Theatre and Phoenix Theatre to name a few. She studied painting and art history throughout her years in school, in addition to studying architecture and interior design when she moved to Los Angeles, California at UCLA. Karen is inspired by impressionism, post-impressionism, and abstract expressionism which is evident in her style of painting. Her paintings, Ruins, Autumn, Purple Haze, Self Portrait and Abstract Landscape were recently on exhibit at Agora Gallery in New York City as part of their current collective art exhibition: I Remember You, I Know This Place, November 10 - December 1, 2018. She received a Special Merit Award for her painting The Pier, from Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery for their 2018 Seacapes Exhibition, and Peaks, from Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery for their 2018 Abstracts Art Exhibition; an Honorable Recognition for her abstract painting Peacock, from Contemporary Art Gallery Online for their 2017 All Abstraction Art Exhibition; and her paintings Northern Coast and Purple Haze both received Special Recognition Awards from Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery for their 2017 SeaScapes and Open Art Exhibitions. Karen’s painting Town by the Sea was on exhibit at Western Bureau Arts Annex Gallery in the Silicon Valley as part of their Someone/Someplace: Figures, Portraits & Landscapes Exhibition in August of 2017. Karen is represented by Agora Gallery New York, New York and a member of the following organizations: Los Angeles Art Association, Arts Action Fund, Americans for the Arts, Arts for LA, and the California Art Club. She resides in Los Angeles with her husband, actor Ammar Daraiseh
